Spend on sport: the foundation's Asia Pacific Project

The Vodafone Group Foundation invested £36.6m in charitable projects in the past financial year, according to its first online annual review published this week.

The foundation, which became a registered charity in 2002, distributed £18.5m to its 23 local foundations worldwide to enable them to support their chosen charities. Disaster relief projects received £1m, projects supporting disadvantaged children through sports and music initiatives received £4m and £500,000 went into its small grants programmes.

The foundation's latest grants round will also include a new initiative, the UK World of Difference scheme, which sponsors suitably-skilled people to work for their chosen charity for a year.

"As a foundations network, we take pride not only in supporting some of the world's largest NGOs, but also in working with smaller or start-up charities where individuals have seen a need and want to make a difference," said Andrew Dunnett, director of the Vodafone Group Foundation.

is Vodaphone giving funds to disabled people's organisations? Many DPOs are reeling under the current economic climate and its unfortunate that the few granting organisations are overlooking them
