Futurebuilders to meet Clark over Catz Club
By David Ainsworth, Third Sector Online, 25 September 2008
Stephen Bubb, chair of Futurebuilders England, is to meet shadow charities minister Greg Clark to address his concerns about the organisation's investment in childcare charity Catz Club.
Futurebuilders gave a loan of £1.8m and a grant of £200,000 to the charity, which was forced to take back an illegal £7,500 donation to the Labour Party earlier this month.
Clark wrote to Jonathan Lewis, chief executive of Futurebuilders, on Monday asking why references to the award had been removed from a press release on the website of the government fund, which helps charities deliver public services.
Futurebuilders has also deleted Catz Club from a list of its investees, prompting Clark to say that it appeared as if someone at the organisation had "doctored a historical press release".
A statement from Futurebuilders said: "Stephen Bubb, chair of the Futurebuilders England board, and Harriett Baldwin, chair of the Futurebuilders investment committee, have requested a full briefing on the Catz Club investment in preparation for their meeting with Mr Clark, during which they will address any concerns he may have surrounding the investment."
It is believed the meeting will take place on Monday.
