Northern Rock Foundation pledges £2.2m to north-east groups

Months after its future was threatened by the financial crisis at the Northern Rock bank, the foundation has awarded grants to charities and cultural groups in Cumbria and the north east of England.

The foundation has pledged to give cash to 25 charities and cultural groups, with most of the funding being set aside to help disadvantaged people in the region.
