Sector leaders to present Icelandic bank losses to ministers

By Andy Ricketts, Third Sector Online, 24 October 2008

A delegation of voluntary sector leaders will meet ministers on Tuesday to present figures outlining how much charities lost in the Icelandic banking collapse.

Representatives from the NCVO, chief executives body Acevo, the Charity Finance Directors' Group and the Charities Aid Foundation will meet Kevin Brennan, third sector minister, and Paul Myners, Treasury minister.

The four organisations will present evidence of how much charities stand to lose in the Icelandic banking failure based on an anonymous survey carried out by the group.

Seb Elsworth, head of policy at Acevo, said the purpose of the meeting was to ensure that charities did not lose out as a result of the banks' failure.

"I am pretty confident that our members that have been affected have responded," he said.

At a meeting earlier this month, Myners told the group to collect evidence of the scale of the sector's losses.
