£100m to create social enterprise jobs
By David Ainsworth, Third Sector Online, 14 May 2009
Government announcement is part of Future Jobs Fund
The Government is to invest £100m in creating 15,000 new jobs in the social enterprise sector between now and 2011.
The measure is part of the £1bn Future Jobs Fund announced in last month's Budget. It is a joint initiative between the Communities and Local Government department and the Department for Work and Pensions.
"Younger people deserve every possible chance to find a job after school, but sometimes they need some extra help to reach their full potential, and that is where social enterprises can give them a leg-up onto the career ladder," communities secretary Hazel Blears said yesterday.
"Social enterprises are ideally placed to play a leading role in the grassroots jobs campaign our jobs fund aims to create.
"We want to see social enterprises coming forward with ambitious proposals to stimulate new jobs that transform our communities."
Jonathan Bland, chief executive of the Social Enterprise Coalition, said: "Social enterprises have an excellent track record of creating jobs where jobs are needed most," he said. "We look forward to hearing more about how the fund can enable social enterprises to strengthen the job market in a lasting and meaningful way."

Voluntary organisations should have the relevant information regarding funding through social enterprise with guidance on what is acceptable through the futures job fund. At present not enough directinformation is available. The third sector is keeping the country afloat at the moment whilst funding is becoming more difficult with more help to establish sustainability through social enterprise more local charities providing first class communty provision would be able to survive, create jobs, training and continue to provide a valuable service. Please make funding easier to access, application forms easier to complete and assistance easier to access.[Report this post]
