WRVS restructure leads to 20 redundancies
By Paul Jarvis, Third Sector Online, 25 September 2009
Older people's charity to cut managerial posts
At least 20 managers will be made redundant as part of a restructure by older people's charity WRVS.
The organisation has confirmed that 70 new senior, regional and locally based manager posts will be created to replace 90 existing management positions.
The charity, which has 2,500 staff, had originally proposed cutting 70 senior management posts and creating 52 regional manager positions in a bid to win more contracts with local councils and primary care trusts.
The vast majority of affected managers will need to re-apply for jobs, because only a small number of the new roles are sufficiently similar to existing jobs to qualify for automatic redeployment.
External applicants will be able to apply for the new roles, and the new management structure is expected to be in place by March.
WRVS said the changes would help join up the services it provides to older people at home, in the community and in hospitals.
"These new management roles will be much more focused on building the partnerships we need and developing the services older people want to enable them to continue doing the things they enjoy in life," said Lynne Berry, the charity's chief executive.
