Opinion: Does a smug culture put people off our sector?

Last weekend, Bel Mooney was half-seriously bemoaning the fact that she had got involved with a fundraising campaign for the neonatal unit at Bath Royal United Hospital after being struck by how inadequate conditions are there, even though she'd just finished raising money for a different cause (The Times Magazine, 31 March).
