EasyJet takes on ambitious fundraising target for Alzheimer's Society
By Christina Farr, Third Sector Online, 1 July 2009
Budget airline aims to more than double charity cash raised last year
EasyJet has pledged to raise £1m for the Alzheimer's Society in its latest charity of the year partnership.
The airline raised £400,000 last year for the Anthony Nolan Trust, but a spokesman said it was confident it could reach the higher target.
He said the airline was able to set a more ambitious target because more passengers were choosing to fly with low-cost carriers. "There has been an increase of 2.5 million customers in the past 12 months," he said.
EasyJet said it would continue the partnership with the charity for up to three years if the £1m target was not raised within 12 months.
The airline said it would increase its fundraising efforts by holding roadshows across the UK to raise awareness of the charity and encourage donations.
Passengers on EasyJet flights will be asked to donate their spare foreign change to the Alzheimer's Society and Alzheimer Scotland, its sister charity. EasyJet will also make donations from the sale of scratchcards on flights.
The airline announced in February that the Alzheimer's Society would be its charity of the year.
