Famous names support their favourite causes this week
TV presenter Gaby Roslin has launched Target Ovarian Cancer's Unzipped campaign, set up to highlight the symptoms of the disease. "Not enough women know about ovarian cancer, and there is confusion between it and cervical cancer," she said. "Three times as many women could survive if it was diagnosed at the earliest possible stage." Target Ovarian Cancer has named the campaign Unzipped because the feeling that your clothes are tight is a symptom of the condition.
A race suit belonging to Jenson Button, last year's Formula One world champion, was auctioned to benefit the National Blind Children's Society in February. Button is vice-president of the society, which provides specialist support for children with visual impairment in the UK.
TV personality Calum Best has just completed a charity trek in Vietnam to raise funds for the Children's Trust. The charity provides care, education and rehabilitation for children with disabilities.
The Hairy Bikers, Dave Myers and Si King, have pledged their support to the Multiple Sclerosis Society's Cake Break event. The national fundraiser encourages people to bake cakes in exchange for donations to the charity during MS week, from 30 April.
Olympic gold medal-winning heptathlete Denise Lewis and weather presenter Andrea McLean will take part in the Pink Ribbon Walk for Breast Cancer Care. Events take place at four locations in May and June.
Actor Hugh Grant has launched Marie Curie's Great Daffodil Appeal, which asks people to make donations and wear Marie Curie daffodil pins during March. Grant has supported the charity as an ambassador since his mother was cared for by Marie Curie nurses before she died in 2001.
