Children in Need hopes that 2009 total will top £40m

BBC Children in Need is set to raise more money from last year's appeal than ever before, according to its chief executive.
Speaking at the Ten fundraising conference at the Tate Modern in London yesterday, David Ramsden, chief executive of BBC Children in Need, said that £40m would be the highest figure since the telethon started in 1980.
The official final figures were not yet in, he said, so the total could not be confirmed. A spokeswoman for the charity said later that £40m was the target it was hoping to reach. The charity raised more than £38m in 2008.
In his presentation, Ramsden said the number of online donations to the appeal had increased but the number of people using the red button on their TV remote controls to donate had fallen in 2009 from its 2008 level.
