Opera company brings up the ton for ImpACT

The Welsh National Opera has become the 100th member of the ImpACT Coalition, the group of charities working to increase public trust in the sector.

The WNO becomes the 33rd organisation to join the coalition since Richard Marsh was appointed as its inaugural director last February.

The coalition, which is hosted and funded by the Institute of Fundraising, has also signed up all of the top 30 fundraising charities since its launch in 2005. The WNO’s annual income of nearly £18m puts it 87th in the Charities Aid Foundation ranking of the largest 500 fundraising charities.

Marsh said the “solid growth” in coalition membership had to be matched by greater transparency and accountability across the sector. “ImpACT aims to resource its members and is well advanced in developing an online toolkit,” he said.

Coalition chair Alan Gosschalk welcomed the WNO’s decision to join. He said: “The addition of our 100th member extends the reach of the key principles of accountability and transparency into Wales – and also, for the first time, into arts organisations.”

Membership of the coalition is free. To join, email the Institute of Fundraising.
