The founder of the disaster relief charity ShelterBox is taking it to an employment tribunal over his removal as chief executive.

The Employment Tribunal Service confirmed that a hearing would take place in Exeter, Devon, in 2013, but said it could not say what the claim was until it was listed two weeks before the hearing.

Tom Henderson was forced to step down from his role as chief executive of Shelterbox by the charity’s trustees in July.

Sir John Banham, a former ShelterBox trustee, resigned from the charity, which provides survival equipment to people affected by disasters, shortly afterwards, saying he did not agree to Mr Henderson’s removal as chief executive.

The charity has so far declined to disclose the reasons behind Henderson’s removal.

Henderson founded ShelterBox in 2000 and it now has affiliated charities in 20 locations around the world that are run autonomously.

A spokeswoman for the charity said: "The issue of legal action is a matter for Mr Henderson. Shelterbox will defend any claim robustly."

Third Sector was unable to contact Henderson, who received an OBE in 2010 for services to humanitarian aid.
