Oxfam has launched a new app that it says will allow supporters to easily amend the amount they donate to the charity in any given month.
The My Oxfam app, which was launched last week, will allow users to increase or decrease how much money they donate and set how the charity can get in touch with them by telephone, email or post.
The app, which Oxfam said it believed was the first of its kind in the charity sector, also allows users to view video messages from Oxfam staff in the field, get live updates on emergencies, shop at the Oxfam online store and access real-life stories from the charity.
Users of the app, which is available for iPhone and Android, will also be able to see their history of donating to and fundraising for the charity.
An Oxfam spokesman declined to confirm how much the app cost to develop.
He said the charity would be promoting the app through methods including face-to-face fundraising and social media.
Paul Vanags, head of public fundraising at Oxfam, said: "Charities are striving to meet the public’s demand for a closer, more modern and responsive relationship with the charities they support. Oxfam’s personalised app is another step towards that.
"My Oxfam provides a window onto the lives changed by our supporters’ generosity and allows users to control their giving from the palms of their hands. The app gives them complete control of their support, anytime anywhere, and allows them to experience the impact of their generosity.
"Our supporters are the lifeblood of our organisation and their donations make a massive difference to millions of people around the world. We want to make giving easy and rewarding."
