PDSA appoints new director general

Veterinary charity PDSA has promoted Jan McLoughlin, its director of veterinary services, to director general.

McLoughlin will take up the post at the end of June. She succeeds Marilyn Rydström, who retires after nine years at the helm.

“Jan is energetic, motivational, and results-oriented,” said Freddie Bircher, chairman of PDSA. “Her experience at PDSA, together with her background, fit her very well for this important leadership role.”

Bircher added that McLoughlin had been chosen ahead of more than 40 candidates, most of them external.

McLoughlin is a biochemist who worked in the food and drink industry before joining PDSA as business development director in 2001. She was promoted to director of veterinary services in 2003.

“I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to lead PDSA through its next phase of development, building on the work carried out by my predecessor,” she said.
