MPs believe the Royal British Legion is the most effective campaigning charity, according to a new poll.

Research organisation nfpSynergy asked 150 MPs about their views on the campaigning effectiveness of 36 charities.

The poll, carried out between January and March, found that 51 per cent thought the Royal British Legion was "very effective" and a further 34 per cent said it was "somewhat effective" in its campaigning work.

MPs were also asked which of the charities had impressed them the most over the past six months and the Royal British Legion won the most votes.

Stuart Gendall, director of corporate communications at the Royal British Legion, said support from MPs was largely because of the charity's Time To Do Your Bit campaign, which was launched during the party conference season last year and was set up to gain support for the charity's general election manifesto.

"It's a great boost for the charity and especially for the campaign to know that MPs rate what we do," he said.
