Runner sets out to sabotage Archer's marathon attempt

A woman is aiming to set a fundraising record at this year's London Marathon to spite Jeffrey Archer.

Computer programmer Laura Foster, 40, was so incensed when she heard the fallen peer was trying to raise more than £1.6m for taking part in the event that she decided to aim for £2m.

"He's hijacking the event for his own glory," said Foster, from London. "I feel the marathon belongs to the runners and not to him."

Foster has launched a website, peoplevspeer.org.uk to promote her race to beat Archer in breaking the £1.2m record set by rapper P Diddy at last year's New York Marathon. She also has a page for donations at justgiving.com.

The NSPCC, Shelter, Help the Aged, Cancer Research UK and ChildLine will share the proceeds. So far, £3,000 has been pledged.

"There are easily 1 million people who will pay £2 to wipe the smile off Archer's face," she said.
