Steve Matthews has been promoted to chief executive at the Mentoring and Befriending Foundation. Matthews has been deputy chief executive, quality and standards, at the charity since 2006. He replaces Peter Collins, who was in the role for 15 years. Matthews said his interest in mentoring went back to his work in education and training before he moved into the voluntary sector. This work had showed him how mentoring could have an impact on children and young people in education, as well as supporting the development of staff in the workplace. "I came from a background where mentoring was used in a different context," said Matthews. "MBF's job is to continue to offer support to the providers I used to work with and to promote the spread of high-quality mentoring and befriending provision."
