Study will assess council workforce

The Government has launched a study to assess the feasibility of a third sector workforce development council.

The Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills has commissioned consultancy IPF to examine potential governance structures as well as the key purpose of such a body.

The aim of a workforce development council would be to provide a strategic approach to addressing third sector skills issues, according to Janet Fleming, head of the Workforce Hub in England, who is sitting on the steering group alongside representatives from the DIUS and the Office of the Third Sector. The steering group is scheduled to make recommendations to the DIUS at the end of January.

Last month, Capacitybuilders announced it would not fund a replacement for the ChangeUp Workforce Hub because it expected a skills council to be set up.
