TAGGING ALONG: National Conservation Minister Ben Bradshaw joins Caroline Davis

National Conservation Minister Ben Bradshaw joins Caroline Davis, chairman of the Tree Council, and Gareth Llewellyn of National Grid Transco to promote a new initiative to protect young hedge trees.

The Hedge Tree Campaign aims to protect trees in hedgerows by marking them with coloured tags with the slogan 'Trees matter - tag them'. They will enable hedgecutters to see the trees more clearly and avoid trimming them back and stunting their growth. The Tree Council, in partnership with National Grid Transco, has issued 7,500 tags to its tree wardens together with tips on tagging. The campaign is a response to growing fears that disease, storm damage, felling and neglect are destroying the UK's hedgerows.
