How many fundraisers are there?

I am the only person in the fundraising team, but I work closely with the chief executive on our fundraising and I get a lot of strategic support from some of our trustees. I am based at our office in Bristol.

What does the team do?

About half of our funds come from statutory sources, 27 per cent from trusts and 24 per cent from fees for our training, accreditation and insight services.

We have started to explore individual giving recently with a few events such as a 10k run. We find it hard to raise money from the public because we are a second-tier charity.

How much do you raise?

Last year we raised £200,000 and we spend less than £65,000 on fundraising, including staff costs. We worked on successful applications for multi-year statutory funding totalling more than £3m last year.

What's in the pipeline?

We've had a tough period recently: we had to make about 10 staff redundant, and it has made us realise that we need to broaden our income base. We're determined to be sustainable in future and I think this is going to be about increasing the quantity of smaller grants in order to broaden the risk.

What's it like in the office?

Although we've been through a very tough six months, we are starting to feel a lot more positive now. I work very closely with other departments, especially with the communications and marketing team.
