Danielle Atkinson, the head of fundraising at the development charity that sends health experts to humanitarian disasters around the world, takes us behind the scenes of the charity's fundraising team

- How many fundraisers are in your team?

There are eight of us in the digital and individual giving team. We also work with various agencies that raise vital funds. We're part of the wider marketing and communications team.

- What does the team do?

The team has a wide remit. We're responsible for direct and legacy marketing, supporter care, community and event fundraising, and digital marketing, which includes managing the website. It means we all muck in - so one minute we might be writing a story for the website, the next we might be selling cakes to the people in the same building as us.

- How much do you raise?

This year we're planning to raise £3m (up from £1.2m in 2009) - this makes up 61 per cent of the total marketing and communications income. We're planning to grow this by a further 63 per cent over the next three years.

- What's in the pipeline?

We've seen our regular giving file grow over the past two years and want this to continue. We've got lots of fundraising campaigns coming up. We're going to be testing street mobile fundraising for the first time, as well as developing a new fundraising event and regular giving product.

- What's it like in the office?

The fact that we're regularly told we're noisy says it all, really. We enjoy our work and have fun while we're doing it. Merlin is a great charity and a great cause with lots of energy and enthusiasm.
