Tesco Bank is the latest financial institution to allow people to make charitable donations through its cash machines.

From today, people will be able to donate between £1 and £300 to any of the retailer’s seven chosen charities through ATMs at its 2,200 UK stores.

The retailer said five of the charities were selected because they focused on the development of children and young people. They are Action for Children, Barnardo’s, the Teenage Cancer Trust, Together for Short Lives and Save the Children.

Cancer Research UK, which is the retailer’s charity of the year, has also been chosen, along with the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Not all Tesco stores have cash machines. A spokeswoman was unable to say how many machines it has.

Yesterday, the Royal Bank of Scotland Group announced it was enabling charitable donations through its 8,000 cash machines.
