Think tank investigates effect of downturn on minorities

Race on the Agenda assesses the impact of the financial climate

Race on the Agenda is investigating the impact of the recession on London's black, Asian and minority ethnic communities.

The social policy think tank's regional network, called MiNet, which represents BAME groups across the capital, has sent a questionnaire to charities asking them to describe how the downturn is affecting them and their service-users.

The results will be used to lobby funders and decision-makers.

LVSC, the generic voluntary sector network for the capital, recently conducted its own Big Squeeze survey about the effect of the recession on London's voluntary organisations.

Its interim results, published this month, showed that 69 per cent of voluntary organisations had experienced an increased workload and 82 per cent were not confident about meeting the demand for their services in the future.
