Third Sector joins push for change

Third Sector is supporting the campaign by the Charities Tax Reform Group to persuade the Government to remedy the unfairness in the VAT system that leaves the sector at a serious disadvantage to the public and private sectors.

The CTRG agreed on the campaign last week and will now seek support from other sector organisations that have argued for reform, including the NCVO and the Charities Aid Foundation.

It also plans to lobby MPs and put the case to ministers, who will shortly receive a post-election position paper on VAT and charities being drawn up by officials.

Third Sector will support the campaign by publicising the unfairness of the VAT system for charities and challenging the Government to act on its manifesto commitment that the sector should be enabled to compete for public service contracts on an equal footing.

- Please tell us what you think of the campaign and how VAT affects your charity by emailing thirdsector@haynet.com.
