Top award for Fire Fighters Charity

The Fire Fighters Charity won the award for best fundraising team at last night's Third Sector Excellence Awards.

Celebrity host Paul Ross presented the award to the winning team in front of more than 600 people from the voluntary sector at London's prestigious Hurlingham Club.

The organisation , which runs therapy centres in Devon, Cumbria and West Sussex, beat finalists the British Red Cross, Mary's Meals and South Yorkshire Community Foundation to take the prize.

The award for best direct marketing campaign went to Jewish Care for its ‘post-it note' appeal at Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, which raised more than £200,000. The campaign was selected by judges for best combining innovation with success.

Youth - The Funding Network won the award for best fundraising event, beating contenders including Save the Children UK and VSO. The Institute of Cancer Research was highly commended by the judges for TacheWars, an online development of its original TacheBack concept, which sees supporters raising sponsorship for growing moustaches.
