David Clayton-Smith has been appointed chair of the Fairtrade Foundation. Clayton-Smith is director and co-founder of the business consultancy Andrum Ltd. He replaces Mike Gidney, who is standing down after six years.

- Ian Barlow, senior adviser at professional services firm KPMG UK, has been appointed chair of heritage charity Historic Royal Palaces. Barlow, who joined the board on 1 July, will replace Angela Heylin, who has retired after 10 years as chair.

- Robert Walters, a consultant ophthalmologist, is the new chair of eyesight charity Orbis UK. Walters has been a volunteer eye surgeon for Orbis since 1994 and a member of the board since 2003. Walters replaces Arvind Chandna, who was in the role for a year.
