UK eye healthcare strategy drafted

More than 100 organisations from the voluntary sector, the medical profession and the Government have drafted the first nationwide strategy to improve eye health.

Launched yesterday by health minister Ivan Lewis, the UK Vision Strategy is an unprecedented collaborative effort in the sight sector.

Lesley-Anne Alexander, chief executive of the RNIB, which led the strategy's steering committee, said: "As a sector, we made it hard in the past for the Government to work with us. We contradicted each other and duplicated some of the work. Now we have a set of agreed principles and a country-wide strategy.

"It's hard work working collaboratively, but we all had to set aside our individual agendas."
