Westminster fund for grassroots charities

Projects for homelessness, young people and education to benefit

A £300,000 endowment fund to support grassroots charities in the London borough of Westminster will be launched next week.

The fund will offer grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 to support projects that tackle homelessness, benefit young people or offer education and training.

The fund consists of a £150,000 donation from property firm Land Securities that has been match-funded with £150,000 from the Office of the Third Sector under its Grassroots Grants scheme. It is hoped other partners will also contribute funding.

The fund does not open for applications until March 2011. Wendy Franks, community liaison manager at Land Securities, said this was to give the fund time to attract enough interest to make it sustainable in the long-term.
