Some staff at the disfigurement charity Changing Faces could be made redundant after what it calls a "significant shortfall in income and donations".
The charity declined to say how many staff might lose their jobs, but a source close to the charity told Third Sector that about 12 roles could be at risk.
An internal consultation document sent to staff on 14 April says that spending would outstrip available funds in the financial year 2015/16 by more than £220,000 unless it made reductions. The document says that its "new income" from all sources in 2014/15 had been £250,000 below expectations.
Under the proposed new structure, there would "no longer be a team of UK development managers, a UK project development manager nor a head of UK development", the document says.
An email was sent to 38 members of staff at Changing Faces on 14 April informing them that their jobs were not at risk. The charity declined to say how many staff it currently employed, but its latest published accounts show that it had 30 full-time equivalent staff in the financial year to March 2014.
Third Sector’s source said that the charity had significantly expanded the number of regional staff in the past six months and now almost all of them were to be made redundant.
Changing Faces said in a statement that the decision potentially to reduce staffing levels had been taken "following a year which has seen a significant shortfall in income and donations".
James Partridge, chief executive of the charity, said in the statement: "I value all our staff and the commitment they bring to our work, and this is a very difficult process. It is vital we protect the services which are changing the lives of so many children, young people and adults, and continue campaigning against prejudice and discrimination.
"As we are in a consultation phase, no decisions have been made and no further comment will be made at this time."
