Napac has turned its back on paid staff and is using volunteers to relaunch its national helpline for adults abused in childhood.
The charity for people abused in childhood is also turning away from government grants in favour of independent funding.
The organisation hired paid call operators when it launched its helpline in 2002 using Department of Health Section 64 grants.
"It was an expensive operation," said Peter Saunders, chief executive of Napac. "It led to a crisis two years later when the Department of Health money ran out."
Saunders closed the helpline - the only national information and support line for people abused during their youth - in 2004 when the charity failed to secure other sources of income.
The service is being re-launched today, however, after Saunders decided to return to the practice of recruiting volunteers.
