Shelter may not have followed proper procedures in removing former chief executive Chris Holmes, Acevo's chief executive Stephen Bubb has claimed.
Holmes, who was forced to leave the charity last month following charges of gross misconduct because of alcohol dependency, has protested against the manner of his exit.
Bubb, who heads the body representing charity chief executives, said.
"It's not clear that proper procedures have been followed by Shelter. I have to deal with one case a week of chief executives having difficulties. In the majority of cases it's often the poor practice of chairs that is to blame."
However, neither Holmes or Acevo will be taking any action.
Shelter has appointed management consultant Robert Silbermann as part-time interim director after the departure of Holmes.
