Aldridge, who also acts as director of strategy and communications, will take over at MissionFish, the charitable arm of online auction website eBay, after five years at Acevo.

He joined in 2002 as policy and communication officer and quickly rose through the ranks. He was appointed deputy director at the end of last year.

During his time at Acevo, Aldridge played a key role in the umbrella body’s work on charities delivering public services. This included a leading role in drawing up Acevo’s strategy in this area, which has attracted the attention of major politicians including outgoing prime minister Tony Blair.

“I am sad to be leaving Acevo, a dynamic and highly effective organisation performing a vital role for leaders across the third sector,” Aldridge said. “However, I am delighted to be joining MissionFish UK as chief executive, at a stage of intense growth and development.”

Aldridge said he would continue to work with Acevo as a member.

Stephen Bubb, chief executive of Acevo, said the umbrella body is due to start recruitment for a new deputy director soon.
