Advisory board for donor website

Intelligent Giving has set up an advisory board drawn from the sector to help it overhaul its benchmarking criteria.

The donor information website announced yesterday that it will now scrutinise charities for accountability as well as transparency.

The board includes Alan Gosschalk, director of fundraising at Shelter, and Cathy Pharoah, the former director of research at the Charities Aid Foundation.

Dave Pitchford, editor of Intelligent Giving, said: "We want our criteria to be more meaningful and useful."

The website has criticised Premiership football clubs for their record of giving to charities. An audit of all 20 Premiership clubs showed they gave £400,000 to charity last year - less than a top player's monthly salary.
