Amnesty rallies support for women of Zimbabwe

Amnesty International UK is encouraging supporters to send messages of support this Christmas to groups and individuals facing persecution, including Women of Zimbabwe Arise. Leaders Jenni Williams (right) and Magodonga Mahlangu are pictured.

The organisation says the group's members have been arrested while taking part in demonstrations, and that Williams and Mahlangu spent nearly six weeks in detention in a Harare prison for protesting against state-sponsored violence at the time of the Zimbabwe elections in June.

Amnesty's annual Greetings Card Campaign encourages supporters to add a couple of extra Christmas cards to their lists by providing free online packs about people at risk, and addresses and postage information.
