The Carnegie UK Trust is an independent charitable trust incorporated by a royal charter. It works to improve the lives and wellbeing of people throughout the UK and Ireland by influencing public policy and demonstrating innovative practice.

- Format and audience

The 18-page, A4-sized report is distributed by post and email to the charity's stakeholders, "many of whom" requested a copy on the charity's website. A total of 2,500 copies were printed.

- Design and content

The report includes an introduction from the chair, a chief executive's review and sections focusing on two of the trust's major projects - the rural programme and the democracy and civil society programme. Financial information is confined to two pages at the back of the report. The photographs used are small, usually less than a quarter of a page in size, and most portray groups of people at various functions.

- Costs and practicalities

The report was written in-house and based on the formal annual review trustees are required to write as part of their duties in accordance with charity regulations. Lucy Boyd Design was commissioned to use the charity's "words and pictures" to produce the final report.

- What's distinctive about it

Very little. The format is standard and the photographs are routine shots of various Carnegie UK events.

The Carnegie UK Trust says:

"We felt it was important that the images could be part of the overall narrative and not simply there for decoration, so the photos are of people we have been involved with during the year at the events and gatherings we arranged."
