Organisation: Redwings Horse Sanctuary
Agency: Online report - The Workshop Printed report - in-house
Spend: £10,000 (£9,000 for website investment over three years and £1,000 for print and staff costs)
Redwings is the UK's largest horse sanctuary, caring for more than 1,200 horses, ponies, donkeys and mules every day.
Format and audience
The charity has produced a printed annual review for the first time this year. It has also gone one step further by making it available on a bespoke website with the intention of making the information easy to access, share and understand. It is aimed at potential donors and those who have already given to Redwings.
Design and content
The A4, full-colour, 35-page report uses photographs of the horses ithas saved and cares for to illustrate its work. Stories of individual horses and the charity's achievements from the year are used, as well as fact boxes. A brief financial summary is included at the end of the report.
Cost and practicalities
To keep costs low, only 200 copies of the review were printed, but the website allows people to download a pdf of the pages that interest them.
What is distinctive about it?
The interactive website is enticing and easy to navigate. It is more economical and eco-friendly, but still includes all the annual review information.
Redwings Horse Sanctuary says:
"We are delighted with the look and feel of the review - in particular the website, which is fun, easy to use and reflects our values as an organisation. This is our first ever printed review and we are very proud of what we have produced. We think that the website adds a fantastic extra dimension and hopefully makes the vital, but dry, information about our accounts much more digestible."
