Archer to have tea with artist Emin for charity fundraiser

One of Jeffrey Archer's first dates when he gets out of prison will be tea at the House of Lords with the controversial artist Tracey Emin and a property developer from Hampshire, Chris Drake.

The prospect of Earl Grey and sandwiches with the disgraced peer, currently serving four years for perjury, sparked a bidding war at a charity auction last week between Emin and Drake, who came out victor with £4,500.

But Drake took pity on Emin, who won the Turner prize for her "dirty bed", and invited her along as well. Emin's own charity lot - a day with Tracey Emin - beat the Archer total and raised £5,000.

The auction was organised by Lighthouse, the London branch of the Terrence Higgins Trust. Samantha Reddin of Lighthouse said: "Our auction committee always try to put together interesting money-can't-buy lots, and this is certainly out of the ordinary."
