Astarita and Barnes called onto institute board

Mark Astarita, director of fundraising at the British Red Cross, and Mike Barnes, director of marketing and business development at the Direct Marketing Association, have been co-opted onto the Institute of Fundraising's board.

The board said that Barnes’s membership and marketing experience and Asarita’s fundraising and direct mail knowledge would complement the board’s skills and experience in further membership and policy development.

The announcement comes as the institute’s standards committee considers the draft code of practice on direct marketing before it is submitted to the body’s trustees for final approval. The publication date itself has not yet been revealed.

Astarita said: “It is an honour and a privilege to serve the fundraising community. I look forward to ensuring the voice of front-line fundraisers is heard loud and clear at every level in the institute.”

Barnes said: “The institute is an outstanding professional body and is vital to best practice, member development and sector growth. Moreover, this is a key time for fundraising and aligning the business to tackle the issues that are facing the industry.”

Last month, Paul Amadi was appointed as chair designate of the institute. He will take over from outgoing chair Joe Saxton in July.
