Astarita fund will pay for training

The first allocation of donations from the Gill Astarita Memorial Fund will subsidise training courses for fundraisers in India.

The fund has been developed by the Resource Alliance and is part of the Fundraisers Fund, an online initiative that uses donations from fundraisers in western countries to provide training bursaries for their counterparts in developing regions.

The Resource Alliance has allocated £2,000 to part-fund 20 places on courses in the sub-continent.

Friends of Astarita, who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year, have so far donated almost £20,000 in her memory.

More than 100 delegates at the International Fundraising Conference in Holland last month signed up to give on a regular basis (30 October, page 9).

Mark Astarita, Gill's widower, has agreed to chair the Fundraisers Fund's marketing committee.
