Auction bags £41 for Age Concern

A Tesco carrier bag - real value a fraction of a penny - has raised £41 for charity after being auctioned on eBay.

The plastic bag was sold by Jamie Green from Southampton, who decided to donate the proceeds to Tesco's nominated charity, Age Concern.The bag, which carries the Age Concern logo, attracted more than 33 bids from around the world.

"This goes to show that even the most simple fundraising ideas can have a big impact," said Gordon Lishman, director general at Age Concern.

This is the second time Green has succeeded in selling a Tesco bag online - he raised £4.39 last year.

eBay has seen a number of unusual charity fundraising attempts recently.

Earlier this month, a 1939 Lancia Astura, once owned by Italian Fascist dictator Benito Mussolini, raised $140,100 (£79,000) for Canada's SickKids Foundation.
