Auction early for Christmas

Charities thinking of using the auction website eBay to raise money this Christmas are being encouraged to get in early contact with its charity partner, MissionFish UK, so that their auctions can be included in a dedicated Christmas charity microsite.

The site, to be launched early next week, is designed to highlight interesting Christmas fundraising auctions being run by charities.

Nick Aldridge, chief executive of MissionFish UK, said the site aimed to build on the rapid growth of charity trading on eBay during the past year. Nearly 1,000 charity shops now operate on the site, each generating an average of £6,000 a year.

Aldridge said: “We would like to hear from any charity, large or small, that is thinking of using eBay for Christmas trading or fundraising. We want to help them get the maximum possible success and exposure through their eBay sales.”

A spokesman for eBay said charity sales had doubled during last year’s Christmas season. “We are hoping for an even bigger success this year,” he added.

Charities interested in being part of the Christmas site should email MissionFish.
