Barnardo's is new Royal Mail charity partner

Barnardo's has formed a three-year fundraising partnership with the Royal Mail Group.

The children's charity was successful in a ballot of 180,000 Royal Mail employees and succeeds Help the Hospices as the company's charity partner. Staff fundraising efforts for Barnardo's will be topped up by the publicly owned firm.

"I am confident that our people will rise to the new challenge," said Kay Allen, head of social action and inclusion at Royal Mail. "Barnardo's is already one of the favourite charities in terms of payroll giving, and we will be encouraging our people to volunteer and to organise local fundraising events."

Martin Narey, chief executive of Barnardo's, said he hoped the partnership would raise a record amount.

Royal Mail's partnership with Help the Hospices, which began in 2005, was its first charity partnership. It raised £2m, twice the original target. Royal added to staff fundraising with donations of £500,000.
