Barnardo's outlines mental health shift

Barnardo's has used World Mental Health Day to signal that tackling mental health problems among children and young people is now central to the charity's activities.

A recent survey of the organisation found that 96 per cent of its childcare projects now deal with mental health-related issues.

Barnardo's staff nominated mental health to be a key area for the charity and one which the organisation should focus on.

New clinical research has found that teenage mental health problems in the UK have more than doubled in 25 years.

"Organisations like Barnardo's now have a crucial role in improving emotional well being and the mental health of children and young people across the UK before the situation reaches crisis point," said spokeswoman Katie Canning.
