Bassac uses £90K to forge BME tie-ups

Community group umbrella body Bassac and the Black Training and Enterprise Group have been awarded £90,000 by the Community Fund for a project to encourage partnerships between black minority ethnic and mainstream voluntary organisations.

The grant follows an initial tranche of funding worth £130,000 for the scheme from the Bridge House Trust last November.

The aim of the project - which will operate in eight London boroughs - is to link diverse and sometimes competing community organisations to build lasting partnerships and increase the benefit which excluded communities receive from mainstream regeneration programmes.

"This is a radical approach to strengthening some of the most vulnerable community groups," said Bassac's chief executive, Ben Hughes.
