Beacon Prize cites donor achievement

Irish International footballer Niall Quinn, who donated the £500,000 proceeds from his testimonial match, and Sarah Francis, a 15 year-old girl who raised £12,000 for Afghan refugees, are among 14 winners of the inaugural Beacon Prize to recognise philanthropy.

Beacon is a charitable initiative to raise the profile of giving in the UK and reward philanthropy. John Profumo and Sir John Paul Getty won special awards.

The winners will attend a ceremony at 11 Downing Street where the overall winner will receive a £20,000 donation for their charity.
