Bling down the tone for a worthy cause

People who 'bling' up their houses with twinkling fairy lights are being urged to ask sightseers to make a donation to Marie Curie Cancer Care this Christmas.

The charity is launching its first Light Up Your Home campaign to encourage people who go in for elaborate festive lighting to use it as a fundraising opportunity.

Natasha Robertson, Christmas appeals manager at the charity, said: "Every Christmas, thousands of people are seized by the craze of 'house blinging' and decorate their property with lights. So why not light up your home for Marie Curie and ask visitors to make a donation to the charity?"

Marie Curie is also official charity of www.houseblinger.com, a website that documents the craze and provides hints, as well as environmental information, on house blinging. The charity has also linked up with an outdoor lights company to showcase supporters' homes on houseblinger. com and give supporters the opportunity to win £1,000 worth of festive lights.
