Bob Reitemeier to become chief executive of I CAN

He is currently the chief executive of the Essex Community Foundation and will take up his new role in January

The children’s communication charity I CAN has appointed Bob Reitemeier as chief executive.

Reitemeier has been the chief executive of the Essex Community Foundation since January 2012. Before that was chief executive of The Children’s Society for 10 years.

He will join I CAN in January to replace Virginia Beardshaw, who announced in the summer that she was stepping down after 10 years to spend more time with her family.

Reitemeier’s senior management career in the voluntary sector has spanned more than 30 years, covering roles in children’s services and international development.

Reitemeier said in a statement:  "I have long admired the work of I CAN and the impact it makes on the lives of children and young people – an impact that helps improve their life chances significantly. I’m excited to have the opportunity to lead such a vibrant, forward-thinking organisation at a time of such change."

Huw Davies, chair of I CAN trustees, said in a statement: "Bob’s understanding of the issues facing vulnerable children, proven leadership skills and long track record of working strategically within the voluntary sector and with children and families puts him in an ideal position to lead I CAN’s work into the future."
