Sooner or later, someone had to do it. Who Moved My Mouse? is a self-help book for cats who want to get ahead, with advice ranging from how to win friends and influence people to how to find that perfect career.

The author, Dena Harris, pays homage to such management classics as Who Moved My Cheese? and What Color is Your Parachute? If you have the nerve, it's the kind of thing you could give the office swot as a Secret Santa present.

Chapter seven is a tribute to Stephen Covey's Seven Habits of Highly Effective People - except this time, it's for cats. "Remember, for you to win," writes Harris, "someone else needs to lose. Win-win scenarios are for weak-minded creatures or species without retractable claws."

What can human charity managers learn from the seven principles? For the territorial manager, how about habit number two: "Claim everything as yours." The minute you enter a room, mark out your territory, so to speak.

Habit number five could also be appealing: "When in doubt, sleep it out." Going through a work crisis? Struggling to know what to do next? Harris advises: "Until the answers reveal themselves, a little catnap never hurts to clear the mind."
