What is the partnership?
Jardine Motor Group sees its five-year partnership with the disability charity Whizz-Kidz as a natural fit, since both organisations deliver mobility and freedom by providing specialist, tailored vehicles. JMG works with the charity every year to identify the greatest areas of need, and directs funding accordingly.
What did the company do?
JMG’s match-funding of £250,000 enabled Whizz-Kids to unlock a major grant, leading to the delivery of a project to provide 10,000 new opportunities for young wheelchair users. During 2017, partnership fundraising was directed towards Whizz-Kidz' team of seven mobility therapists, who work with families to assess children's needs. The £187,000 raised funded over 6,900 hours of therapist support.
JMG donates money to Whizz-Kidz for every Motability vehicle sold, every car sold at auction and every service carried out, three income streams that generate about £100,000 every year. The company has also donated two VW Transporter vans to Whizz-Kidz Mobile Community Service. JMG dealerships have hosted Whizz-Kidz services and events, and provided training days and work placements. Every work placement is tailored to the young person and the site, using HR expertise and Whizz-Kidz specialist support.
Why did it win?
By the end of 2017 the partnership had raised £857,254, more than double its target. Some 117 pieces of mobility equipment have been provided for disabled children. The donated vans have visited 1,770 children and 270 wheelchair skills training places have been funded, teaching children use their mobility equipment safely and confidently. Twelve residential camp places have been funded, giving young people opportunities to learn vital life skills, and 667 places funded at Ambassador youth clubs.
