What is the partnership?
The family-owned bakery Warburtons has partnered with Cancer Research UK since October 2014, raising funds and providing other support. CRUK works with the company to help employees recognise signs and symptoms that could support an early diagnosis of cancer, and to encourage healthier behaviours.
What did the company do?
Fourteen Warburtons employees have been selected as charity champions, responsible for managing key fundraising events and maximising fundraising potential. Warburtons offers up to £375 in matched funding to all employees who take part in sponsored events, and teams can apply for a bonus of up to £375. The company also donates 5p from every 800g seeded batch loaf to CRUK.
Warburtons and CRUK worked collaboratively with seven Warburtons sites to establish bespoke health awareness messaging displays and TV screen messaging in communal areas.
Why did it win?
The original partnership target of £300,000 has been smashed by 400 per cent as Warburtons has raised £1.5m. This success resulted in a partnership extension of three years. The bespoke health awareness communications have reached 13,000 employees.
What did the judges say?
"It is great to see a partnership perform so well and get extended," said Holly Christie, head of corporate partnerships at SOS Children's Villages UK. "I was delighted to see brilliant employee engagement and belief in the partnership."
